    Description

    1974 Porsche 914 2.0 ~ Fully Sorted
37,000 original miles with original fuel injection, located in East Hampton, New York.
Stored for over 30 years by the original owner whose family sold it to the dealer who I bought it from exactly two years ago.
It was listed at a Maine auction as “completely restored and rust-free” - which it was NOT. And after speaking to the seller before the auction (who also told me it was nearly perfect), I was ready to bid on it online, but the auction house pulled it because they couldn’t get it running to cross the block. I was allowed to buy it after the auction from the owner despite me never seeing the car in person (big mistake).
When it was delivered to me I was pretty upset regarding its true condition.
The floors and both trunks were excellent, but the battery tray area, door sills, and longtitudinals all had issues, which I was assured by the owner that they were excellent. Of course none of his pictures showed these issues.
The brakes were frozen, the fuel and brake lines were completely deteriorated, and the electronics were a mess. But after owning four 914’s before this, I was confident the miles were true.
The owner’s manual had the original owner’s name and info in it, so I googled his name, and in minutes I was speaking to his family who confirmed the low miles for me.
Additionally, I got the original owner’s bill/window sticker from the Pittsburgh Porsche dealer he purchased it from (,000.00 in 1974).
The owner’s son said his dad only drove it in the summer months, but in the early 1980’s someone backed into the right front fender while it was in his driveway, and then his insurance company cancelled his insurance because of it! He had the fender fixed, and pushed it into his barn, only to be sold by his family after he died to the “dealer” I purchased it from.
I had been looking for a zambezi green, 2.0 with tan interior 914, and especially the original fuel injection, so I poured endless amounts of money into it over the last two years, which is more than what I am selling it for.
Here is just a partial list of what has been performed on the car, by numerous garages:
    Relay panel, and new relays
Rear calipers and rotors (I think the front ones were done, too)
Spark plugs, plug wires, magnetic hall effect sensor
    Map sensor
    Replaced at least one injector
Cold start injector was flooding engine
    Throttle position sensor
    Timing adjusted
    Starter
Compression test showed all pistons over 100 lbs
Fuel pump fine, but fuel pressure regulator replaced
Replaced battery tray and metal underneath
Door sills and major metal areas under door sills were covered in fiberglass, hiding rust in important structural areas. This was replaced correctly using metal from 914 Rubber and Auto Atlanta
Gas pedal was wobbly, and that was replaced by a new one.
    New carpets.
I searched for a vintage Alpine stereo, but I ended up putting a high-end, modern Alpine unit in it, with bluetooth, satellite radio, and many other features, too. New speakers from Auto Atlanta. Original, dealer-installed radio comes with the car.
Original bill of sale from dealer comes with car, too.
Vacuum leaks fixed, and now the 914 runs way better than any of my Weber carb. 914s I owned before this one.
Accelerates wonderfully, but bucks slightly when the engine is cold. Once it’s warm it runs and drives like a new 914. It is much quieter than my past 914's, which must be because of the factory fuel injection. It seems like it has much more torque than my earlier ones, and third gear is fantastic around town.
New shocks and springs in the trunk.
The first shop I took it to fixed almost nothing, lost the metal piece attached to the battery that holds the computer, and charged me nearly ,000.00. They only succeeded to fix the tachometer.
The right door handle has to pulled a little harder than normal, but it is NOT because the floor is sagging - it's the handle.
The left spring on the rear trunk needs adjusting.
There’s thick paint on the targa top (I’ve removed about 75% of it).
This is easily the best shifting 914 I’ve ever driven, and everything feels like a 37,000 mile 914 should (I’ve put a little less than 1,000 miles on it in the two years I’ve owned it).
The gas tank was either replaced or boiled/repaired before I bought it (I have many receipts)
There was a rust hole about the size of a quarter in both front wheel wells, and the driver’s side hole was repaired correctly this year,
while the passenger side rust hole was covered up/filled with what looks like J.B. Weld (it’s not easy to locate).
The horn works every once in a while.
All work completed was done by professional mechanics (unlike the seller I bought it from), and I am leaving out many other fixes that have been done.
I strongly suggest you inspect the car before you buy it. It is not perfect, nor is it as perfect as it looks in my pictures. I would not hesitate to drive it across the country; it drives beautifully now, and my iPhone works perfectly with it when I’m speaking hands-free. I still have the Panasonic stereo the Pittsburgh Porsche dealer installed in it.
There are small amounts of surface rust in the trunk, and elsewhere, and I have matching paint to cover it, but I did not want to seem like I was covering up anything. If I keep the car I will paint those areas. Wherever rust was fixed, the shop did paint the fresh metal to protect it. The new battery tray was not painted, but that can be easily done.
**I suggest you NOT buy a 914 that needs a ton of work or you have not inspected. This project was very stressful, but the result was excellent. People get very excited when they see it.
    Reserve is set at ,000.00
Car is sold in “as-is” condition, and the buyer is responsible for pick-up, but I will certainly assist any transporter when they arrive to get the car.
I will only meet with anyone to inspect the car at my local police station parking lot, or at any local mechanic. Please do not make any silly offers. I do not want to trade for anything.
I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please do not bid on the car without asking me any important questions you might have.
I reserve the right to cancel any bidder with low bid history (I have been ghosted in
the past by winning bidders who do not even contact me).

    New Pictures added.
On Aug-27-21 at 14:36:56 PDT, seller added the following information:
The structural parts were primed and painted before the lower rocker covers were put back on.
I did not paint any surface rust places underneath the carpet (very minor), nor in the trunk area
because I did not want to cover/hide it. I do have matching paint, and if the car does not meet the
reserve I will paint those areas.
This car is NOT perfect, but it is the best 914 I've ever owned and driven.
On Aug-28-21 at 09:24:42 PDT, seller added the following information:
This is the wonderful "2.0" engine. It seems to have a bit more torque than the 1.7 and 1.8 motors.
On Aug-28-21 at 13:31:35 PDT, seller added the following information:
I have taken pictures of the door sills (before and after) To show how the weekend metal was replaced with metal and painted correctly.
This car is not perfect but it is a terrific driver with no known  issues.
