ANTIQUE CARVED GOLD GILT WINGED LION HEAD VICTORIAN PEDESTAL COLUMN PLANT STAND

Here we have an exceptional, and quite fancy, late 1800's era ~ GOLD GILT WINGED LION OR GRIFFIN HEAD
CARVED
PEDESTAL ~ . This is the type of thing you would only see in large and wealthy Victorian homes.
This would not have been an inexpensive piece to purchase even back in the late 1800's era.
It has an exceptionally beautiful gold gilt capital with winged griffin or lion heads. The base is wonderfully carved and the entire piece is really quite magnificent as you can see. We believe the wood is mahogany, but are not positive?. It measures approximately 37 inches tall with a 14 inch base and the top measures about 10 inches across and it weighs about 30 pounds. The over all condition is quite nice with some expected signs of wear from age and use. We're not positive but it may have originally had a piece of marble or something on top?  All in all, it is actually fairly well preserved for being over 100 years old. This would be a great pedestal to display a bronze or marble sculpture.
