    Description

This newel post came from the estate of a man who owned a thrift shop in NYC (Greenwich Village) in the 1970s.  My guess is this probably came from the entry of an old brownstone in Manhattan.  Definitely dates from late 19th century to early 20th century.
Has one joint that can be used to connect it to another piece of ironwork.  The top finial can lift off and is attached to a long rod.  I imagined useing this to hold a sign to my shop, but instead always had it sitting next to my gate as a decorative object.
I stripped this piece and repainted it to show the crisp lines of the casting.  Has been in my personal collection for many years.  Sad to let it go.
Very heavy cast iron.  Center is hollow.
    Measures: 51"h x 8"w
