I COLLECT THE CUSTOM KNIVES OF MONTANA KNIFE MAKERS. I SPECIALIZE IN KNIVES MADE BEFORE THE MAKER BECAME FAMOUS IN THE INDUSTRY.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CUSTOM MAKERS WAS OLSON KNIVES.
JOE OLSON is currently known for his award winning folding knives of unique design and execution. He didn't start that way. According to Christy Schopp of the famous BCS knife makers Olson learned to make knives in their shop making the kind of fixed blade custom collector knives which they are famous for.
Here is some information about BCS
BCS WAS A JOINT BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HUSBAND AND WIFE BOB AND CHRISTY SCHOPP. FROM 1986 TO THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF BOB IN 2001 THEY COLLABORATED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF NOVEL, ARTISTIC CUSTOM DESIGNED KNIVES.
THEY STARTED MAKING KNIVES IN 1986 AND IN 1987 WERE INVITED TO DISPLAY THEIR WORK AT THE NEW ORLEANS SHOT SHOW MAJOR COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS CONVENTION.
BOB AND CHRISTY HAD LIVED IN NEW ORLEANS WHERE HE HAD BEEN A PRIVATE DETECTIVE BEFORE MOVING TO MONTANA AND SO IT WAS A DOUBLE TREAT FOR THEM.
BOB WAS A TWO TOUR VIET NAM MARINE AND HAD PURSUED A NUMBER OF OCCUPATIONS BEFORE FINDING HIS TALENT IN KNIFE MAKING. HE FOUND THAT HE COULD OBTAIN HIGH GRADE STEEL AT REASONABLE PRICES FROM LOCAL SAW MILLS WHO USED HUGE HIGH QUALITY SAWS WHICH WERE USELESS TO THEM WHEN THE TEETH WORE OUT. AFTER CUTTING AND HEAT TREATING THE KNIFE BLANKS THEY WENT TO WORKING THEIR MAGIC.
CHRISTY DID THE ART WORK AND ETCHING WHICH INCLUDED THEIR UNIQUE RATTLESNAKE LOGO AND SUITABLE OTHER BLADE DECOR AND PERSONALIZATIONS.
CUSTOM DESIGNS INCLUDED CARVINGS IN VARIOUS HANDLE MATERIALS INCLUDING BONE , ANTLER AND EVEN FOSSIL WALRUS  DONE BY ROBERT LANGFORD WHO IS CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE THE PREMIER CARVER IN THIS MEDIUM OF THE ERA.
THEIR KNIVES ARE SOME OF THE MOST ORIGINAL AND APPEALING DESIGNS OF THE ERA.
OLSON continued making fixed blade knives and later found his true art in folding knives.
GOOGLE JOE OLSON KNIFE MAKER AND LOOK AT SOME OF HIS FOLDERS WHICH SELL FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
THIS IS ONE OF HIS EARLIEST FIXED BLADE CREATIONS. NEVER USED. ONLY IN AND OUT OF THE SCABBARD A COUPLE OF TIMES.
This is a custom  knife with antler handle  and heavy custom leather sheath. this knife has a  4 1/4"  heavy blade and 9" total length. New condition from major collection

SPENCER , SHARPS , HENRY , VOLCANIC, JENNINGS, REMINGTON, JOSLYN,WESSON,BALLARD,BACON,BLISS,WARNER AND SMITH AND WESSON ALL SOLD CRITTENDEN AND TIBBALS AMMUNITION UNDER THEIR OWN TRADE NAME. THE UNION ARMY BOUGHT MILLIONS OF CTM PERCUSSION CAPS AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SPENCER CARTRIDGES DURING LINCOLN’S WAR AND ALL OF THE SPENCER AMMUNITION USED IS THE FIRST MAJOR BATTLES INCLUDING GETTYSBURGH WERE ALL MADE BY CRITTENDEN AND TIBBALS.
****Over the course of the next couple of years we will be offering for sale thousands of rare specimens of museum quality many of which have never been offered for sale before and which you will likely never see for sale again. Why are we selling this archive and reference collection? After 150+ years of interest in ammunition there is no one else interested in the field in our family. My personal collecting has spanned 50 years and I am at an age when it is time to stop and pass on such activities to others.
