Restored by West Texas Luthier, Michael Turko
Up for consideration is an extremely rare classical guitar by the well-known Swiss builder, Alois Suter --
who is most famous as a cittern maker,
with the original label reading: Alois Suter,
1869,
Näfels, Kt. Glarus. The guitar has a Spruce top, with a solid, flamed-maple back and sides, with a stained fruitwood neck and peghead, and six pegs. The fingerboard is also made of stained fruitwood (some of the stain now showing uncovered wood) bone frets and nut, along with the stained bridge and bone saddle. It is in good condition, having had several repairs made over the years, comes with the original wooden coffin case.
The first 3 frets are brass, and it still has a relatively straight neck, with medium-high action -- but with a bridge saddle that is still tall enough to allow for further lowering of the action. The guitar is now quite playable and very stable, as it has just been gone through by West Texas luthier, Michael Turko, and is strung with Dogal Venetian Classical Guitar Strings (NR88 Soft Tension).
